Former Scottish amateur champion Grant Forrest from North Berwick, a final-year student at San Diego University, California, shot one eagle and 23 birdies over 54 holes in finishing joint second in a United States college golf tournament on Hawaii (November 3 to 5).

Forrest had rounds of 65, 66 and 68 for a 17-under-par total of 199 over a par-72 course at 7,223yd at Makai Golf Club, Princeville.

Forrest had an eagle and six birdies in his first round, nine birdies on the second day and eight birdies in his final round.

A triple bogey 6 at the short seventh in his third round was a very costly one. Had the Scot parred the hole he would have tied with the winner of the Warrior Princeville-Makai Invitational, Frederick Wedel (Pepperdine University) who had scores of 64, 63 and 69 for 20-under 196.

Forrest tied for second place with the world's top ranked amateur, Ollie Schneiderjans (Georgia Tech) who scored 66, 65 and 68 for 199.

Robert MacIntyre, pictured right, last year's Scottish U18 boys stroke play champion from Oban and now a freshman student at McNeese State University, Lake Charles in Louisiana, finished joint 17th in the quality field of 84 players, 41 of whom finished under par after three rounds.
 The left-handed Scot shot 73, 67 and 69 for seven-under-par 209

Walker Cup player Rhys Pugh (East Tennessee State) tied for 24th place on 212 with scores of 72, 68 and 72.

England international Seb Crookall-Nixon (San Francisco) from the North of England,  finished joint 39th on 215 (74-72-69).
Georgia Tech (809) won the team title ahead of Arizona State (824) and Louisville (826). San Diego (841) finished sixth of the field of 15 teams.

JOSH JAMIESON JUST OUTSIDE TOP 20 

AT CORDE VALLEY, CALIFORNIA

Josh Jamieson from  St Andrews, the 2011 Scottish U18 boys' stroke-play champion and now a third-year student at Northwestern University (Luke Donald's alma mater), finished joint 21st in a field of 72 at the Gifford Collegiate at Corde Valley Golf Club, San Martin, California (Nov 3 to 5).
Jamieson had steady scores of 71, 72 and 73 for a three-over par total of 216 over a long and testing par-71 course of 7,360yd.
David Boote from Epsom, a third-year student at Stanford University (Tiger Woods' alma mater), finished joint eighth on 210 with scores of 68, 73 and 69 for 210 - six shots behind the winner,
a team-mate of Jamieson's at Northwestern, Dylan Wu who scored 69, 68 and 67 for nine-under 204.
UCLA (1050) won the team title ahead of Southern California (1053) with Stanford (1066) third. Northwestern (1081) finished fifth of the 10 teams competing.
