HOME COURSE WINNER OF THE SCOTSMAN CHALLENGE TROPHY, TITLE AND £1,000 PRO PRIZE

LOCAL KNOWLEDGE PAYS OFF FOR 

DALMAHOY'S MARK KERR IN SCOTTISH 

ALLIANCE CHAMPIONSHIP

Home course professional Mark Kerr, joint overnight leader, forged clear over the final round to win the Scottish Golfers' Alliance Championship, The Scotsman Challenge Trophy and a cheque for £1,000 at the Marriott Dalmahoy Hotel golf courses, Edinburgh today (Friday).
Kerr pulled away from Andrew Oldcorn (Kings Acre) who was also on the 211 mark after two rounds with a one-under-par 72 over the test East Course for a winning total of three-under-par 211. He had opened with a 72 over the East and tagged on a four-under 64 over the shorter West course in the second round.
Keir McNicoll (Gullane) finished strongly with a 71 for 209, two shots behind the winner.
McNicoll earned £625.
Neil Henderson (Renaissance) closed with a 72 for third place on 210 and a £375 reward.
Oldcorn sagged to a closing 75 and filled joint fourth spot on 211 with Craig Matheson (Falkirk Tryst) and Ryan Buckley (Royal Musselburgh).
Greg O'Neill (Dullatur) finished as the top amateur to win the Clydesdale Bank Quaich with a total of 220 - one shot ahead of Newmachar's John Duff whose North-east colleague, Keith Shanks (Kings Links), who caddies for David Law on the Challenge Tour, finished third best amateur. Their prize vouchers amounted to the vale of £500, £300 and £175 resectively.
O'Neil, who plays off a handicap of 2, also had the lowest 54-hole net aggregate but the prize voucher will go to the player with the next lowest net score, Tony Boyle, a four-handicapper at Glenbervie, who totalled 217, followed by Andy Rothney (Deer Park) (3) 218.
George Wither (Duddingston) won the Senior Amateur (over-55s) titlefor the fifth championship in a row.
He had a two-round total of 147
The senior amateur handicap top award was shared by Albert Smith (Turiff) and Ron Bell (Pitlochry) on 144
In the Consolation event for those not qualifying for the final round today 42 players challenged for some prizes over the West Course. Willie Laing (Prestonfield) secured the best scaratch and handicap scores with 70 less 6 for 64.
