GERMAN MAKING RARE APPEARANCE ON HOME TURF

LANGER'S BACK-TO-BACK 66s GIVE HIM

A SHARE OF THE LEAD

EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
German golfing legend Bernhard Langer thrilled the home crowds with a sparkling six under par 66 in the second round of the WINSTONgolf Senior Open to take a share of the lead alongside English pair Gary Emerson and Wraith Grant.
It was Langer’s second consecutive 66 and gives the 57-year-old Florida-based player the chance to record a first win on home soil since 2001, when he won the Linde German Masters on The European Tour.
However, Emerson and Grant are men in form, posting rounds of 67 and 65 respectively at WINSTONgolf in northern Germany, while their compatriot Simon P Brown (66), South African Chris Williams (66) and Argentine Cesar Monasterio (68) are lurking one shot back on 11 under par.
Langer said: “I played a pretty solid round today. I made a smooth start and then got into gear. I had a few chances coming in, but the greens are really hard to read – they are fast with many slopes.
“It is always great playing at home, which doesn’t happen so often anymore. I have a pretty good record in Germany and it is really fun to play here and have great support from the spectators.

" The crowds this week are fantastic and I really appreciate so many people coming out to cheer me on.
“It would be terrific to win this tournament on Sunday, not only for me personally but also for the tournament.”
Grant said of his 65: “I can’t remember the last time I had ten birdies in one round. If it wasn’t for three mistakes, which cost me three bogeys, it would have been something special. Hopefully I can play the same way tomorrow but cut out the mistakes.”
Emerson said: “I've not played well the last few months, and I don’t really know what’s been the reason for my form this week, but I’ll take it. Everything has gone very well so far here and I’ll certainly be giving it my best shot tomorrow.“
