US PGA CHAMPIONSHIP AT VALHALLA, KENTUCKY

WOODS DELAYS BUT TOMS IS OUT

The US PGA Tour has given Tiger Woods an extension to register to play in the US PGA Championship in Kentucky.
Woods has until 10 minutes before Thursday's tee-off time at the US PGA to declare himself fit to play following a back injury.
The American, 38, withdrew from last weekend's WGC-Bridgestone Invitational after jarring his back.
The four-time US PGA winner requested an extension to the deadline for registration, usually 17:00 on the eve of the tournament, and it was granted.
Colin Montgomerie says Woods "will suffer" if he plays in Valhalla.
Former champion David Toms has withdrawn with a back injury.
While most of the golfing world was waiting on updates of Tiger Woods' status, Toms was forced to admit defeat in his bid to return from a similar back problem to the former world No 1.
Toms' place in the field has been taken by America's Shawn Stefani, who leads the US PGA Tour in total driving this season and lost to Justin Rose in a play-off for the Quicken Loans National in June.
Stefani will be playing in his first PGA Championship.
Toms won the tournament in 2001 by making par from the fairway on the 18th hole at Atlanta Athletic Club to beat Phil Mickelson by one shot.
He holds the major championship scoring record after finishing that event on a 15-under par total of 265
