McILROY RISES TO NUMBER 2 IN

After claiming his third major title, Rory McIlroy is once again on the cusp of the top spot in the Official World Golf Rankings.
McIlroy's two-shot win at the Open Championship moved him from eighth to second in the world. While the Ulsterman held the No. 1 ranking as recently as March 2013, this is the first time he has been as high as No. 2 since last year's Open at Muirfield, where he missed the cut.
Adam Scott, who finished T-5, held onto the top spot for the 10th consecutive week, while Henrik Stenson and Justin Rose each fell to Nos. 3 and 4, respectively, behind McIlroy. 
Fresh off his tie for second at Royal Liverpool, Sergio Garcia moved up four spots to No. 5, the highest the Spaniard has been ranked since August 2009.
At No. 6, Bubba Watson is the highest-ranked American, followed by Matt Kuchar and Jason Day, each of whom fell two spots in the rankings this week. Tiger Woods also dropped two slots after his 69th-place finish, from No. 7 to No. 9, his lowest position in the rankings since May 2012. Jim Furyk, who finished fourth in Hoylake, edged out Jordan Spieth for the 10th spot and is now inside the OWGR top 10 for the first time since February 2011.
Other big moves in the rankings following the season's third major included Rickie Fowler, who jumped from No. 25 to No. 18 following his tie for second, and Marc Leishman, who went from No. 62 to No. 51 after finishing in a tie for fifth.
