ANOTHER BLOW TO SGU ORGANISERS

SCOTTISH BOYS' STROKE PLAY CUT

TO TWO ROUNDS AFTER FOG RETURNS

The scheduled 72-hole Scottish Under-18 boys' open stroke-play tournament has now been cut to 36 holes after the haar (sea fog) returned this morning and made play impossible at Cruden Bay today (Thursday) before 11.30am.
A two tee-start was used and the 51 qualifiers will play only one final round.

EDITOR'S NOTE: The remarkable thing about sea fog is that it is not consistent. Places only a mile or two away might not be affected. Could this tournament have been switched at short notice to Newburgh-on-Ythan, Peterhead ... or, dare I say it, the Trump International Links to beat the fog bogey?
There is a precedent in Scottish pro golf for such a move.
A few years back, a Tartan Tour match-play event at Royal Aberdeen was fogbound and it was switched at 24 hours notice to an inland venue, namely Deeside.
