ELDERSLIE PLAYER FOUR SHOTS BEHIND AUSSIE LEADER AFTER ROUND 3

McDOUGALL CLICKETY-CLICKS IN

LAST ROUND TO WIN TENNANT CUP

Elderslie's Alasdair McDougall, pictured below,  produced a brilliant last round of four-under-par 66 to leapfrog the tournament leaders over the final 18 holes and win the prestigious Tennant Cup at Glasgow Golf Club's Killermont course today (Sunday).
McDougall's first two rounds at Glasgow Gailes on Saturday - 71 and 72 for 143 - left him in joint third place behind halfway leader Adam Dunton (McDonald Ellon) (71-69) and Scott Gibson (Southerness) (70-71) at the start of the day.
Dunton's third-round 75 and Gibson's 73 left the door open for their challengers.
Australian Ben Ferguson took over the lead with a 69 for 212, two shots clear of Gbison (73 for 214), three ahead of Dunton (75 for 214) and four ahead of McDougall (73 for 216) and Scott Borrowman (69 for 216).
McDougall, who had a morning 73 at Killermont, got it altogether for a last-round surge to victory with a par-matching 282 total.
Dunton found his form again with a closing 69 for 284 but that was good enough only to share second place with  Ferguson (The Vines) whose closing 72 allowed McDougall to make up the four-shot leeway and have two more to spare.
Borrowman, whose 67-69 scores at Killermont represented the Sunday best by anyone in the field, finished fourth on 285.
An opening round of six-over 77 at Glasgow Gailes came back to haunt the Dollar man  - and, in the final analysis, cost him victory.
