GREAT DANE TO MISS MAJOR AT PINEHURST NEXT WEEK
INJURED BJORN OUT OF US OPEN
Thomas Bjorn has been forced to pull out of the US Open because of neck and shoulder injuries.
The
Dane, who came close to winning the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth
last month, will be replaced in the field at Pinehurst by amateur Andrew
Dorn.Dorn was the first alternate from the sectional qualifier in Springfield, Ohio.
Bjorn, ranked 23 in the world and a candidate for the European Ryder Cup team, had appeared to be in good form for three rounds in the PGA but he struggled in the final 18 holes of the tournament eventually won by Rory McIlroy.
South Africa's Richard Sterne has also withdrawn from the tournament, which starts on June 12, citing a slow recovery from an undisclosed injury.
His place has been taken by Scott Langley, who was the first alternate from the Memphis sectional qualifying event.
