PERSISTENT FOG ON ATLANTIC ISLAND DISRUPTING EUROPEAN TOUR EVNT

MADEIRA OPEN CUT TO 36 HOLES

- GOOD NEWS FOR LEADER HENRY

This weekend's European Tour tournament, the Madeira Islands Open, has been reduced to 36 holes for the  first time in the tournament’s 22 history after persistent fog played havoc with The European Tour’s 1,500th event.
After day one was abandoned due to heavy fog all day, Round One got  underway on Friday but not without further delays as more clouds moved
in on the mountain-top Clube de Golf do Santo da Serra in the morning.

Play was eventually halted at 8pm on Friday evening when more fog  settled on the course and Round One once again resumed on Saturday at noon, after another delay in the morning.
All of this is good news for the Scot, Scott Henry, who leads the field with a 67 which he managed to file in the limited playing time available on Friday.
Two Scots, Duncan Stewart and Raymond Russell, are among those who have still to complete 18 holes.
If the fog does not permit the first round to be completed, presumably the tournament is abandoned with nobody winning it.
So Scott Henry must be hoping that those who have not yet completed one round, do so early on Sunday.
Now, if it proved impossible to complete a second round, would Scott Henry be declared the winner?
Interesting question!
