RENFREWSHIRE GOLF UNION MEDIA RELEASE

RENFREWSHIRE COURSES SELECTED

FOR SGU AREA TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Scottish Golf Union has confirmed that the Scottish area team championship will be hosted by the two Bridge of Weir courses – Old Course Ranfurly and Ranfurly Castle.
The Championship requires two courses for the 36 hole stroke play qualifying rounds.  The event will be played over three days in mid May.
The field of 96 players will be the top six players from each of the sixteen areas in Scotland and, as such, it is anticipated that the team selections will include Scottish amateur champion Alexander Culverwell, Scottish boys’ hampion Bradley Neil, who was joint runner up at the Alfred Dunhill Pro Am tournament last year, and Ewan Ferguson, who is the current British boys’ champion.

The majority of our International squad are expected to be selected so golf fans in Renfrewshire will have the chance to watch the highest quality of amateur golf.
Both course managers, Ian Morrison (Old Course Ranfurly) and Kerr Rowan (Ranfurly Castle) are determined to have their courses at their best although the date is relatively early in the season.  Ranfurly Castle, which will be the course used for the match play battles between qualifying area teams leading to the 36 hole final on 18 May has lengthened the course with the addition of four tiger tees.
The venue should give the Renfrewshire Golf Union team a slight advantage as both courses will be well known to the team.
