Top seed Ryan Evans (Wellingborough GC, England), fell at the first hurdle of the match-play stages of the Australian men's amateur international championship at The Grange Golf Club, Adelaide.
Evans, playing the last of the 64 qualifiers, went down by 3 and 2 to Ryan Ruffels (Victoria) on another day of high temperatures - 46 degrees Celsius was the predicted temperature for mid-afternoon so the match-play ties, unusually, began with a shotgun start to try to get the players off the course before the searing heat arrived.
Last year's championship beaten finalist Geoff Drakeford (Victoria), home club member and 2013 Australian junior champion Anthony Murdaca (South Australia) and National Squad member Taylor MacDonald (Queensland) all progressed to the last 32.
MacDonald beat fellow Aussie national squad member Lucas Herbert (Victoria) 3 and 2.
A total of eight international players made it through to the next round including Americans David Snyder and Max Buckley.
