DEFEAT BY SPAIN IN LAST MATCH MADE IT A TIGHT FINISH

ENGLAND WIN COSTA BALLENA 
TITLE ON A COUNTBACK  

England lost to Spain in their final match of the international men's quadrangular at Costa Ballena GC in southern Spain today - but they won the title on a countback.
England, Spain and Finland (who beat Germany in their final match) all finished with 4pt (two wins) apiece. The countback of individual games won placed the tie-ing teams
1 England +16.5
2 Finland +16
3 Spain +14.5

Having beaten Finland and Germany, England needed only a draw with Spain to take the title - but the Spanish team triumped 5 1/2-3 1/2 after taking the foursomes 2-1 and the singles 3 1/2-2 1/2.
Finland beat Germany 6 1/2-2 1/2 (foursomes 3-0, singles 3 1/2-2 1/2) in the other last-day match

Simon halved with Kinnear
Poladura lost to Burlison 2 and 1.

Sainz lost to Chapman 3 and 2.
