TAIN TEAMS DOMINATE NORTH ALLIANCE THREE-BALL EVENT
By ROBIN WILSON
Tain teams monopolised the North Golf Alliance three-ball
team event at Brora, all ten of their members finishing in the top four teams.
The first three Tain teams all tied on low scores of 49,
seven under the par for the Brora 15-hole Winter course. On a countback over the the inward eight
holes and winning with a count of 25,
even after dropping a shot to par at the final hole but more than made
up for with an net 1 at the 13th hole, were Mark Brunton, Graeme
Oliver and Alan Sangster.
On the stiffer back eight holes into the wind in second
place with the inward count of 27 for their 49 came Andrew Watt, Alec Gunn and
Steve Holmes. They had just two net birdies on this stretch after a first seven holes of
22.
Tain's dream team of Ferries siblings Billy and Munro and
Alastair Melville shot to the head of the leaderboard with seven outward half 3s for 21 but their one and only bogey came at the 17th hole to take them
home in the higher count of 28.
Tain's tenth member Richard Hamblin teamed up with Golspie's
Alister Bell and Tim Featherstone to end
up in fourth place with a score of 51
(24-27).
