Sporting gesture by Bellbaxters Montgomerie helps Madras win

A sporting gesture by Bellbaxters Jackie Montgomerie helped Madras win back the FP match trophy from Bellbaxter played at Ladybank Golf Club on Tuesday 17^th September.

Madras FP turned up for the match one player short after a late call off, however Montgomerie who was just returning to golf following an injury volunteered to step down from the singles and therefore did not claim the single point from Madras’s missing player. As a result of this gesture Madras prevailed 8 games to 7 in the annual fixture.

The match was close throughout the day, the morning 4 ball better ball games were tied at 2 points each. Bellbaxter went ahead by one point following the greensomes.

However Madras dominated the singles winning 4.5 to 2.5 to take the overall match 8 points to 7.

This was the fourth playing of the match and the series in now tied at 2 matches each.

“we are delighted to have taken the trophy back off our rivals and are looking forward to the 5^th anniversary match next year. Our thanks goes out to Ladybank Golf Club who were excellent hosts for the match” said Madras FP Captain Mike Braidwood after the match.
