Ex Walker Cup player and Eisenhower Trophy winner Gavin Dear has just launched a new golf scholarship website with business partner and ex PGA Professional Liam Barn.

Golf Scholars has been designed with the input of US college coaches and ex scholarship athletes to assist with scholarship recruitment process.

‘I won the 2008 Eisenhower Trophy and 2009 European Team championship with Scotland, then went on to represent GB and I in the 2009 Walker Cup.’ said Gavin. ‘I could only have achieved this through the improvements made to my game during my time at Lynn University in Florida.’

He added ‘I spent a lot of time in America practicing and feel it is a great place to improve your game. For me, the U.S College system provides an excellent route to help reach your potential.’

The process can be difficult as individuals have countless criteria they need to fulfil to successfully obtain a place.

‘Gaining a scholarship can be a bit of a minefield for many young golfers and their parents, so business partner Liam Barn and I have designed an affordable and informative website which provides a secure platform where players can connect with College Coaches.’ 

‘The website is essentially a marketing platform where players and coaches can build relationships in a controlled environment. To help support that relationship we have put in place a comprehensive program to ensure players have a better opportunity of finding the college that is right for them.’

Golf Scholars allows players to take control of their own unique scholarship journey, by providing each with their own profile where they can upload extensive academic and golfing stats and build relationships with coaches at colleges they are interested in attending.

Gavin is continuing to play on The Challenge Tour and Europro Tour in preparation for European Tour Qualifying School in November. ‘I’ve been playing well for the last couple of months, but just not getting the breaks.’ ‘It’s just a case of continuing to work hard on my game and I know things will change.’
