OLDCORN WINS AT ARCHERFIELD LINKS WITH NINE-UNDER 63
Andrew Oldcorn shot his lowest round for some time - a nine-under-par 63 - to win the top pro prize of £900 in the Ben shotgun pro-am over the Fidra Course at Archerfield Links, East Lothian today (Tuesday).
The Kings Acre man had two eagle 3s, seven birdies and two bogeys. Starting at the sixth with a birdie, Oldcorn improved to four under with a birdie at the 10th and his first eagle at the 11th. Then came his quiet spell when he bogeyed the 15th and 17th before his grandstand finish in which he covered his last six holes in seven under par with birdies at the 18th and first, an eagle at the second and then birdies at the third, fourth and fifth. His actual halves 1-9 and 10-18 were 29 and 34.
It will not be recognised as a pro course record as the tournament was not played off the back tees - but it was still a score to be proud of.
Oldcorn finished joint 8th in the IPS Handa PGA Seniors Championship back in June at De Vere Mottram, a performance which earned him £6,669. This was only his fifth start on the Tartan Tour this season.
Scott Henderson (Kings Links) and Mark Kerr (Marriott Dalmahoy) finished joint runners-up, five shots adrift on Oldcorn on the four-under 68 mark.
Henderson have five birdies and a bogey; Kerr am eagle, four birdies and two bogeys. Both earned £629.
Oldcorn steered the amateur trio of Ken Ronald (handicap 10), Stephen Ronald (6) and John Spieres (18) to victory in the pro-am team event with a net score of 16-under-par 56
