HUGH HUNTER'S CLACKMANNAN COUNTY NEWS
ALEXANDER TAKES ON THE ROXBURGHE
First, apologies to
Braehead’s Rikky Alexander for overlooking his entry in the Scottish Boys
Stroke Play Championship at the Roxburghe golf course last week.
Rikky had a pretty good performance, finishing
31st equal in a high quality field with a 9 over par score (76, 72, 77) on the
tough course.
Bob MacIntyre,
however, didn’t find it tough and was the winner with an 18 under par score (66,
66, and 66). Bad weather cut the tournament to three rounds.
Those golfers with
sharp eyes may have picked up the record breaking win by a 14 year old Thai
amateur in a 72 hole professional event, beating many experienced players with
a 13 under par score. His reaction to
winning was to phone his friends to catch up on his school homework, after
being given the week off school ….. WOW!
WEATHER
WIPE-OUTS
Unfortunately the
36 hole County Championship which should have been
played at Alloa on Sunday was a casualty of heavy rain and a rescheduling
will be made. Details will appear soon in the local Golf Clubs.
The 36 hole Central Scotland seniors at Kilmacolm lost one round due
to the weather. Locals were a bit down
the field. Tulliallan’s Phil Dempsey scored 72, and Bob Stewart a 74, while
the winner Ronnie Clark scored a 65.
Bob is in the field
for the prestigious Seniors Open Amateur Championship to be held at Royal
Aberdeen from Wednesday 7th till Friday 9th August. In the field of 144 top seniors,
Bob tees off at 3.52 on the Wednesday.
