FENWICK'S LATE SWOOP TO WIN £1,073 PRIZE AT WEST LOTHIAN

NEIL FENWICK .. Two shot swing in his favour at the 17th.

Just when Christopher Russell, long-time leader in the clubhouse with a 66, must have been thinking of his winner's speech, in came "tail-end Charlies" Neil Fenwick and Gareth Wright to change the final leading placings in the West Lothian pro-am at West Lothian Golf club, Bo-ness today.
Englishman Russell, who plays out of RAW Golf Course Design, had no bogeys in his five-under-par round.
Fenwick won the £1,073 first prize with a six-under 66. It was the Dunbar tour pro's first win on the Tartan Tour this season but his seventh top-10 finish in 10 starts which have boosted his bank balance by £3,851.
Fenwick highlighted his card with an eagle 2 at the par-4 wth and had birdies at the second, short third, 10th, long 12th and 17th.
That birdie at the penultimate hole was decisive in the final analysis.
Glenmuir PGA champion last year, Welshman Wright looked set to tie with Fenwick at least after an eagle 2 at the par-4 seventh and then a purple patch of four birdies in a row from the 12th to the 15th.
But a three-putt bogey at the 17th saw him finish in a tie for second on 67 with the aforementioned Russell. They earned £751 each.
Four teams finished with net 14-under-par totals of 57 and the card countback gave victory to Chris Kelly (Cawder) and the "Captain's Team" of Maureen Shanks (handicap 11), Peter Ritchie (7) and Steven Fraser (11).
