MAITLAND SHIELD REPORT FROM DEREK JOHNSTONE

The closest match of the evening was expected to be between Newmachar and Banchory but it wasn’t to be, thanks to the excellent form of Banchory's second pairing, Jack Harling and Craig Lindsay.

They went round the Kings Links in a score of two under par  to score a six-hole win over the experienced duo of John Duff and Euan Kennedy.
With their top pairing of Adam Lindsay and Lindsay Smart losing by one hole, the 17th, Banchory will now face Deeside in the second round of matches on Wednesday night.
Deeside had a very comfortable win over Peterculter with both Deeside pairings seven up at the turn as their opponents struggled with the strong windy conditions.

The battle of the Links clubs saw the Caledonian take the bragging rights.  There was nothing in the first match until the Caley pairing of Barry Reid and Alan Doig won the 14th when their Northern opponents, George Paterson and Brian Rae, three-putted.
Further wins at 16 and 17 secured a comfortable three-hole advantage.
A similar three-hole win to the Caley second pairing set up a mouth-watering second round tie with their others Links neighbours, Bon Accord.
