SCOTS SURGE TO MAKE TOP 10 IN NATIONS CUP

Scotland staged last-day surge to break into the final top 10 of the European Nations Cup men's amateur golf tournament at Sotogrande on Spain's Costa del Sol. Led by Matthew Clark, pictured by Cal Carson Golf Agency, matching the best score of the final day - a four-under-par 68, all four Scots produced their lowest rounds of the four days. James White had a 70 for 292 to finish 14th in a field of 73 individuals. Jack McDonald shot a 70 also for 296 to finish joint 23rd.  Graeme Robertson returned a 73 for 300 and a share of 36th place. Kilmacolm's Clark, who did not have a counting score the first three days, found his touch on the final day with that 68 after disappointing rounds of 78, 79 and 77.  His total of 302 played him joint 47th. England (Toby Tree, Max Orrin, Garrick Porteous and Nathan Kimsey) won the Nations Cup team event for men (Spain won the women's title) with a total of 856 - six shots ahead of France with Ireland (869) in third place.  Scotland were officially placed ninth with an aggregate of 883. If only they had got their act together a bit earlier!
