McKENNA'S COSTLY LATE SLUMP IN S AFRICAN MATCH-PLAY
Balmore's Fraser McKenna looked set for a place in the semi-finals of the Northern Amateur match-play championship at Randpark Golf Club, South Africa today when he birdied the fifth, sixth, eighth and 12th holes to be two up on Tertius Van Den Berg after 13 holes in the quarter-finals.
But McKenna, who had earlier completed a two-hole win over South African match-play champion Thirston Lawrence to reach the last eight hit a bad patch to lose four holes in a row from the 14th with three bogeys and a double bogey and go down by 2 and 1.
Fraser Moore (Glenbervie) lost by 2 and 1 to Teaghan Gauche in a third-round tie unfinished on Wednesday because of bad light.
