EWAN SCOTT FINISHES JT 5th IN SOUTH AFRICA

Scottish youths champion Ewan Scott from St Andrews finished joint fifth in the South African men's amateur golf stroke-play golf championship at Oubaai Golf Club today.The 17-year-old Fifer endured a frustrating final day when the birdie putts just would not drop for him. He had started the round only three shots behind the leader but could only par his first 16 holes.Then he birdied the short 17th before finishing with yet another par for a 71 and a final total of eight-under-par 280.Last month, Ewan Scott won a golf medal with Team GB in the Australian Youth Olympic Festival.
South African Hadyn Porteous retained the South African stroke-play title with scores of 69, 67, 70 and 69 for a 13-under-par total of 275. He won by two shots from compatriot Wayne Ferreira (66-69-73-69).Ellon's Adam Dunton birdied the last three holes for a closing 71 and a share of 29th place on 290.
Fraser McKenna (Balmore), the only other Scot to survive the halfway cut, finished joint 55th on 298 with scdores of 78, 67, 79 and 74.
