ROSS CAMERON LEADS SCOTS ALPS TOUR Q SCHOOL

By COLIN FARQUHARSON Colin@scottishgolfview.com

Ross Cameron (pictured) put in a grandstand finish of birdie-par-birdie-eagle for a four-under-par 68 to share third place at the end of the first round in the Alps Tour Final Qualifying School at the La Cala Golf Resort, Marbella on the Costa del Sol today (Monday). But for some Scots it was a day to forget: .John Henry had a 9 at the 16th .... Paul Shields had two double bogeys ... Philip McLean had an 8 and two double bogeys ... and Neil Fenwick had a triple bogey and two double bogeys.
Michael Stewa
rt, a Walker Cup hero in September 2011 but who can't get it together as a pro, shot a 70 for a share of 19th place. The Ayrshire man birdied six of the first 12 holes but ruined his chances of scoring in the 60s when he bogeyed the short 14th and long 15th.Coventry-based Scottish amateur Christopher Dougill had a 73 for a share of 56th place, which gives him a good chance of making the cut to the leading 65 players and ties after two rounds. But John Henry (Clydebank and District) is struggling in joint 79th positon after a 75. He was out in 34 but took 41 blows to come home. John was three under par with four holes to play and then bogeyed the 15th, ran up a 9 at the long 16th and dropped another shot at the 18th.

Amateur Paul Shields, who played well recently on an Arizona pro tour, must have wished he was back in the desert. He finished with a 77 for a share of 106th place, thanks to a 7 at the long ninth and a double bogey 6 at the short 16th. Paul dropped four shots to par over the last four holes.
Peterhead's Philip McLean ran up an 80 for joint 130th place. He had halves of 38-42 with double bogey 6s at the fourth and sixth plus a quadruple bogey 8 at the 12th.Tartan Tour Neil Fenwick's failure to break 80 was one of the biggest surprises of the day. He shot a 10-over-par 82 and starts the decisive second round in joint 134th place with little or no chance of making the top 65 who will play the third and final round on Wednesday.
Fewnick had an inward half of 43 with 7s at the long 10th and par-4 13th and a double bogey 6 at the 15th.
