MATHESON, NICOLSON BEST OF SCOTS ON STAGE 1, DAY 1

Former PGA Cup player Craig Matheson (Falkirk Tryst) and Greg Nicolson from the Lothians made the best start among the Scots competing in the European Tour Qualifying School Stage 1 event which teed off at the Roxburghe Hotel course near Kelso today
Both shot two-under-par 70s, but were three shots behind the Irish leader, Mark Staunton.
Greig Hutcheon (Banchory), leader of the Tartan Tour money table and Order of Merit, had a solid par 72, the same score as Graham Fox (Rowallan Castle).
