STUDENT MUNRO TOPS NORTH-EAST ALLIANCE CLASS FOR 3rd TIME

Robert Gordon University student Gordon Munro scored his third win on the North-east Golfers' Alliance 2011-2012 circuit with a par-matching 64 over a short, winter course at Newburgh Golf Club, Aberdeenshire today.
Fraserburgh member Munro, pictured, a winner at Craibstone in November and Inverallochy in January, birdied the 11th and 12th, bogeying the first and 14th in halves of 33-31 to head a field of 84 players by one shot and win a £100 voucher.
Joint runners up on 65 were Tartan Tour pro Lee Vannet (Carnoustie) and rookie pro Kris Nicol (Fraserburgh).
Vannet overcame a bogey-bogey-bogey start with an eagle 2 at the fourth and birdies at the 10th and 13th. He dropped shots at the 11th and 18th in halves of 33-32.
Nicol, in contrast, was two under par after only four holes, thanks to birdies at the second and fourth but he bogeyed the fifth and sixth in an outward half of level par 32. A birdie at the 10th put him under par again but he had back-to-back bogeys again, at the 13th and 14th, in an inward 33.
