BELLY PUTTER HAS NOT BEEN BANNED ON PGA EUROPRO TOUR

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE PGAThe Professional Golfers’ Association and the PGA Europro Tour would like to clarify that they are NOT banning belly putters as was reported during Sky Sports’ golf coverage at the weekend.
Ben Groutage, PGA tournament director, said “We would like to clarify that this is definitely NOT the case and we have no intention of bringing in this condition of competition in any of our tournaments in the foreseeable future.
“The confusion has arisen due to an independently run professional tour in Spain called the “Gecko Euro Pro Tour” - to which the PGA has no affiliation. They have taken the move to ban all belly putters in their tournaments.
“The PGA Europro Tour has a very close relationship with the R and A and European Tour and, whilst there has been much discussion recently about the use of the belly putter at the highest level of the game, ultimately we will be led by those bodies on any decisions going forward.”
