Defending champion Allyn Dick (Kingsknowe) is the clear halfway leader in the SGU Order of Merit 72-hole competition, the Newlands Trophy, at Lanark GC this weekend.
After the longest day in the tournament's history - there were two suspensions because of the threat of lightning and bad weather - players were still out on the course after 9pm with light fading fast.
Scotland international Dick (pictured by Tom Ward Photography), Scottish mid-amateur champion in 2005 and 2006 and Cameron Corbett Vase winner in 2009, tagged a second-round 66 on to a 68 to go three shots clear of the field on six-under-par 134.
Although now listing Kingsknowe as his home club, Dick has strong Lanarkshire connections. He has been club champion of Shotts for the past seven years.
His closest rivals going into Sunday's final two rounds are Sam Binning (Ranfurly Castle) (69-68) and first-round leader Steven Rennie (Drumpellier) (67-70).
A total of 41 players survived the halfway cut with two-round totals of 151 or better.
