COOK AND SANDELAR RETIRE FROM LEGENDS BETTER-BALL
FROM THE GOLF.COM WEBSITE
SAVANNAH, Georgia (AP) — The team of John Cook and Joey Sindelar withdrew today from the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf better-ball pairs tournament because Sindelar has a bad back.
Sindelar, who injured his back last week in a Champions Tour event in Tampa, felt well enough to start the 54-hole event with his old Ohio State teammate on Friday.
However, he felt pain again and came off the Savannah Harbor course after four holes.
Cook played the last 14 holes alone and had the team just three strokes off the lead with a 7-under 65. After the round, Sindelar indicated he might be able to play again, perhaps on Sunday. But he changed his mind early Saturday.
Cook said he would have played on as a single for Saturday's round, but didn't feel it was fair to finish the tournament that way.
