CARRIS TROPHY BOYS' CHAMPIONSHIP STRETCHED TO FOUR DAYS

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE ENGLISH GOLF UNION
The English Golf Union has decided to extend the playing of the English boys' open Under-18 amateur stroke-play Championship for the Carris Trophy from three to four days.
This will take place this year when the championship is played at Broadstone Golf Club in Dorset from July 19 to 22.
In recent years, one round has been played over the first two days with the leading 40 players and ties playing 36 holes on the third and final day. The change means that just one round will be played on each day and that after 36 holes, the leading 60 competitors and all those tying for 60th place, shall compete for the Carris Trophy.
The move recognises the importance, prestige and popularity of the tournament that can mark a milestone within a player’s career.
Past winners of the Carris Trophy include Ryder Cup players Ken Brown, Sandy Lyle, and Justin Rose and in more recent times Stiggy Hodgson, Tom Lewis and Spain’s Pablo Martin. The current champion is Callum Shinkwin from Hertfordshire.
