YORKSHIRE TEENAGER BIDS FOR JUNIOR ORANGE BOWL WIN
NEWS RELEASE FROM THE ENGLISH GOLF UNION
Paul Lockwood (Hessle, Yorkshire) will seek to bring down the curtain on 2010 by becoming only the second English player to lift the title when he represents the English Golf Union in the annual Junior Orange Bowl in Florida just after Christmas.
The 18-year-old England A Squad member will pit his skills against the best youngsters from the United States as well as an international line-up in this prestigious American tournament which will be played at its regular venue of the Biltmore Golf Club from December 27 to 30.
Lockwood finished second on the Titleist Footjoy EGU Boys Order of Merit this year after a successful season in which he also finished runner-up in the Yorkshire Boys Championship and the English Boys Under18 Stroke Play Championship for the Carris Trophy. He also reached the last 16 in the British Boys, was capped by England for the European Boys' Team Championships and the Boys' Home Internationals, which England won, and for GB and I in the Jacques Leglise Trophy.
In Florida, Lockwood will hope to emulate Ben Parker, sister of Ladies European Tournament player Florentyna Parker and now a professional, who won the Junior Orange Bowl in 2005. Walker Cup player Stiggy Hodgson was runner-up two years ago.
The Orange Bowl, one of the most prestigious Under 18 events in the world, has separate boys and girls' tournaments played over 72 holes of stroke play.
