Craig Hamilton beats Craig Watson in mid-am final

Craig Hamilton from Ballochmyle Golf Club, near Mauchline, Ayrshire is the new Scottish mid-amateur golf champion.
He beat the pre-tournament favourite and No 2 seed, Craig Watson, playing over his home course at East Renfrewshire Golf Club, by 3 and 2 in the 18-hole final.
Hamilton, the No 4 qualifier from the stroke-play stages, was four under par and never looked back after winning the second, third and fourth with a par-birdie-birdie run.
A birdie 4 at the eighth increased his lead to four and Watson did not win a hole until the ninth – and it required a birdie 3 to do it!
Hamilton restored his four-hole advantage with a birdie 3 at the 19th but was pulled back to only two up when he bogeyed the 11th and Watson birdied he short 13th.
That was as good as it got for Watson, the first winner of this tournament in 1994 and winner of the British amateur title in 1997.
The 14th was halved in par 4s, the 15th in birdie 4s before Hamilton produced his sixth birdie of the round to finish the match at the 16th. Watson was only one over par for the holes played.
Today's results:
Semi-finals – Craig Hamilton (Ballochmyle) bt Scott Ritchie (New Zealand) 1 hole; Craig Watson (East Renfrewshire) bt Paul Moultrie (Royal Troon) 2 and 1.
Final – Hamilton bt Watson 3 and 2.
