Haines beats Fleetwood at 37th hole in classic Spanish final
The all-England final of the Spanish men's amateur international championship turned out to be a classic match-play contest at La Canada Golf Club on the Costa del Sol.
Thirty-six holes were not enough to provide a winner. The match went to the 37th before No 1 seed Matthew Haines (Rochester & Cobham) beat his Walker Cup team-mate and reigning Scottish open amateur stroke-play champion Tommy Fleetwood (Formby Hall).
Fleetwood was 10th of the 32 qualifiers.
