Paul Moultrie joint 52nd as

Englishmen finish 1-2 in

European Mid-Amateur

Former winner of the Ayrshire champion of champions' tournament, Paul Moultrie (Troon Portland) finished joint 52nd in the European men's mid-amateur championship at Rio Real Golf Club, Marbella on Spain's Costa del Sol on Saturday.
Moultrie had scores of 77, 81 and 77 for a total of 235 over the par-72 course.
Yorkshiremen and Moortown clubmates Stephen East and Nigel Sweet pulled off a notable 1-2 finish.
East, picture with trophy from European Golf Association website, scored 72, 73 and 72 for a total of one-over-par 217, finishing one shot ahead of Sweet who had rounds of 72, 72 and 74.
Brazilian Rodrigo Lacerda Soares finished third on 219 with three rounds of 73.
Two more Englishmen finished in the top 10. John Kemp (John O'Gaunt) came joint fifth with scores of 72, 76 and 73 for 221, one ahead of Paul Griffiths (Sandwell Park) who had rounds of 75, 72 and 75.
Alan Condren was the leading Irishmnan on 223 with scores of 75, 78 and 70.
