Fraser Fotheringham KO'd in


last 16 of Aussie match-play

Nairn's Fraser Fotheringham, pictured right, reached the last 16 of the Australian men's open amateur match-play championship at Royal Queensland Golf Club before losing by 6 and 5 to New Zealander Blake McGrory, the No 23 qualifier.
In the first round, contested by the leading 32 finishers in the Australian stroke-play championship, Fotheringham, the No 26 qualifier, beat the No 7 seed, Jordan Sherrat from South Australia) by 2 and 1.
Fotheringham, who will be 20 in August, was beaten in the 36-hole final of the 2007 British boys championship.
The final of the Australian match-play championship will feature Australian Daniel Beckmann (Victoria) and compatriot Scott Arnold (New South Wales) who beat McGrory 3 and 2 in the semi-finals.
New Zealand's Ryan Fox, son of All Blacks legend Grant Fox, was defeated by Beckmann at the 19th in the semi-finals.
