Macaulay shows his class with
68 in to book Q School place

Scottish amateur champion Callum Macaulay showed his world class by posting a four-under-par 68 in his fourth and final round to book a place in next week's European Tour School Final Qualifier at PGA Catalunya.
The Tulliallan player's place among what was the final figure of 21 qualifiers from the Arcos Gardens, Jerez venue looked very much in jeopardy when he was on 146 after two opening rounds of 73.
Then Macaulay (pictured right by Cal Carson Golf Agency) got into the top gear that augurs well for a new career in the pro ranks as he put together two 68s - eight under par for the final 36 holes - to qualifying in on six-under-par 282 , one stroke inside the limit mark which saw six players play off for last two places.
Gavin Dear (Murrayshall), one of Macaulay's Eisenhower Trophy-winning team-mates, was one of the six and unfortunately he was eliminated.
Other Scots eliminated at Arcos Gardens were Euan Little (287) and Elliot Saltman (289), Elliot finishing with a 67, easily his best of the week, but in vain.

Wallace Booth's shock failure after last-round 78
The big shock for Scots followers at the Montenmedio, Cadiz venue was the last-round demise of Scottish amateur stroke-play champion Wallace Booth from Comrie. Wallace looked a certainty to be among the 20 qualifiers for the Final Q School. That was before he closed his campaign with a six-over-par 78 (his three previous scores had been 70-71-70) for a total of 289 and 28th place. Other failures were amateur Mark Hillson (292) and Eric Ramsay from Carnoustie (296).
But there was good news also for the Scots from this venue.
Tartan Tour No 1 Chris Doak and Chris Lee from Stirling both cruised through on 282 while Cardross amateur Scott Henry's great work over the last two rounds - 68 & 70 - enabled him to make the 20 qualifiers, right on the limit mark of two-under-par 286.

David Patrick misses out at Costa Ballena
After being bang in contention for one of the 19 qualifying places at Costa Ballena over the first three days with a hat-trick of 69s, David Patrick from Edinburgh slipped out of the "magic circle" with his first over-par round of the week, a 73 which gave him a four-round total of eight-under-par 280 and put him into a share of 19th place and an eight-man play-off for the last qualifying spot.
The play-off was won by Chilean Benjhamin Alavarado with an eagle 3 at the first extra hole.
There was one Scotland qualifier from Costa Ballena - former Scottish amateur champion Graham Gordon from Abedeen who shot a marvellous last round of 65 to pull himself up by the bootlaces to a final total of 276 and a coveted place at PGA de Catalunya next week.

Lloyd Saltman survives seven-man Sunday play-off
Lloyd Saltman still has a chance of making it through to the Final Q School next week. A great final round of 68 under pressure gave him a total of 283 at Sherry Golf, Jerez. The former Walker Cup player who was expected to be well into a lucrative pro career by now was one of seven players who tied for the 19th and last spot at this venue.
After a 2 1/2 hr play suspension because of rain there was no time left to stage the play-off which will now take place on Sunday.
There are no Scots qualifiers at this venue unless Saltman rises to the occasion.
George Murray (288), Duncan Stewart (291) and Paul Doherty (293) were among those eliminated after four rounds.
SUNDAY MORNING NEWS: Lloyd Saltman won the play-off to join the other Scots in the European Tour Final Qualifying School.
