GREAT SCOTT! DAVID WINS GOLF
AWARD IN DOUBLE-QUICK TIME

PRESS RELEASE ISSUED BY PGA
A Scottish golf professional has received one of the industry’s ‘Oscars’ after being named Secretary/Manager of the Year by Clubhouse magazine.
PGA member David Scott admitted he was ‘gobsmacked’ to have collected the award for his role at The Duke's, St Andrews, especially as he only began the job in July.
The 45-year-old, who is an Advanced Fellow of the PGA, a former PGA Cup player and past winner of the PGA Pro-Captain Challenge tournament, beat off strong competition from across Great Britain to win the award.
He was particularly surprised, given that he has only been in the hot seat for such a short time.
“I was completely taken aback and delighted to receive such a lofty accolade, given I’ve only been in the position a short time,” said Scott, who is attempting to achieve Master Professional status with the PGA.
“I’m not one for awards, I’m quite humble and just get on with work without thinking about such things. To find out I’d been short-listed and then told I was a finalist was a surprise but when my name came out at the awards I was gobsmacked.”
Scott, who had previously spent eight-and-a-half years as Director of Golf at Kingsbarns Links, admitted it was time to move on for fresh challenge, which The Dukes certainly offers.
“It’s been really exciting to come here from Kingsbarns and have a new challenge,” he said.“It’s no longer just about the golf as my role encompasses everything from the hotel, to the catering and the golf. I have a lot of new ideas and have introduced some already, including revamping the menu and re-introducing the club newsletter.
“I’m fortunate to have a great team around me and an owner who is passionate about golf and what we’re trying to do here, in terms of investing in the whole infrastructure.
“I had my time playing but I saw the way forward and management was the way I wanted to go.”
