Scottish amateur
champion
Callum Macaulay (Tulliallan) justified top seeding for the Allied Surveyors Scottish amateur championship when he beat Steven McEwan (Caprington) by 5 and 3 in the 36-hole final over the Carnoustie championship links.
It was a pretty clear-cut first national title win by Macaulay in the end but McEwan held a four-hole lead after only five holes in the morning.
Macaulay fought back to go in for lunch all square after the first 18 holes.
McEwan, unseeded although he does lead the SGU Order of Merit standings, drew first blood in the afternoon to go one up with a win at the 20th. But it was his only success of the second round.
Macaulay took a stranglehold on the title by winning the 25th, 27th, 28th, 29th and 30th holes to go four up.
The 31st and 32nd holes were halved before Macaulay ended the contest by winning the 33rd for a 5 and 3 margin of victory.
Will Callum defend the title? Probably not. Look for him among the entries for the European Tour Qualifying School process.
