Kelly one shot away from
equalling Montrose record
Cawder tour pro Chris Kelly was only one shot away from equalling the Montrose Links professional record with an eight-under-par round of 63 which won him the top prize of £1,023 in the Montrose pro-am today.
Kelly, picture right by Cal Carson Golf Agency, won by three shots from Andrew Oldcorn (Kings Acre) and Anthony Mackrell (East Kilbride) with a scorecard that included that rare bird on a golf course - an albatross 2 - with a drive and an eight-iron at the par-5 490yd sixth hole.
He also had birdies at the third , fifth, eighth, 12th, 13th and 15th in halves of six-under-par 30 and two-under 33. Amazingly in such a low score, Kelly did have one bogey, at the 16th - that's how close he was to matching David Shacklady's record 62 in last year's Open qualifying.
Mark Loftus (Cowglen) led the O I L Engineering trio of Malcolm McKenzie (handicap 12), Mark Toshney (7) and George Rodgerson (15) to victory by four strokes with a net total of 21-under-par 121 in the team event.
