DEAR AND O'HARA LEAD SCOTS
CHALLENGE IN DENMARK

Gavin Dear (Murrayshall) and Colville Park's Paul O'Hara lead the Scottish challenge in joint eighth place on one-over-par 72 at the end of the first round of the European men's individual amateur golf championship at Esbjerg Golf Club, Denmark.
Dear, pictured right by Cal Carson Golf Agency (all rights reserved), had a double bogey at the 10th but birdied three of the last five holes in an inward 35. O'Hara also came home in 35. Only six players broke the par of 71 on a day of wind and rain.
England's Luke Goddard from Hendon leads on three-under 68 (34-34).
Keir McNicoll (Carnoustie) and Steven McEwan (Caprington) shared 34th place on 74. McEwan had a double bogey 7 at the 14th in halves of 36 and 38. McNicoll had 37 both ways.
Scott Henry (Cardross) and Wallace Booth (Comrie), who did so well in this championship last year, had not a single birdie between them in returning 76 apiece to be in joint 64th position. Hendry had halves of 38 while Booth scored 37-39.
Glenn Campbell (Blairgowrie) saddled himself with a triple bogey 8 at the fourth and a double bogey 6 at the 16th in compiling a 77 (39-38) for joint 81st position.
Scottish champion Callum Macaulay (Tulliallan) had an off day in returning a 78 for a share of 102nd place. Callum had a double bogey 6 at the long fourth and a triple bogey 7 at the 16th after he had birdied the fifth and 15th.
