Euro cut with ease

Scottish champion Callum Macaulay shot a great round of 68 to survive the halfway cut in the European men's individual amateur championship at Esbjerg Golf Club, Denmark.
The Tulliallan man, pictured right by Cal Carson Golf Agency (all rights reserved), had looked in danger of going out after a first round of 78 especially as the number of qualifiers was reduced to 50 and ties this year but he improved by TEN shots with a three-under-par effort in the second round for a 146 tally. Only those with 36-hole aggregates of 148 or better progressed to the final two rounds.
Paul O'Hara (Colville Park) and Gavin Dear (Murrayshall) are the joint top Scots at the moment with a pair of 72s each for 144 and a share of 16th place, eight shots behind the leader, Jurrian Van Der Vaart from the Netherlands. He has scored 69 and 67 for six-under-par 136 and a three-stroke lead from Germany's Sean Einhaus.
England's Luke Goddard, the first round leader, is in third place on 140 with 68 and 72.
Apart from O'Hara and Dear, the other Scots to beat the cut were Wallace Booth (Comrie) and Steven McEwan (Caprington).
Wallace, who did well in this tournament last year, has scored 76 and 71 for 147. Steven has had a pair of 74s for 148.
The three other Scots, Scott Henry (Cardross), Keir McNicoll (Carnoustie) and Glenn Campbell (Blairgowrie) missed the cut.
