SCOTSCRAIG TITLE DOUBLE FOR
JUNIOR JORDAN McCOLL
Teenager Jordan McColl has written his name in the history books of Scotscraig Golf Club.
The Tayport, Fife club - which has been a qualifying venue for the Open - was founded 191 years ago and 17-year-old Jordan has become the first member to hold the club's men's and junior championships at the same time.
His glorious weekend began on Saturday with the 36-hole junior final in which he beat Cameron West by 7 and 6 and highlighted his performance with a hole in one at the 150yd sixth hole with a nine-iron.
The next day, he won the 36-hole men's final by beating Kevin Carr 6 and 4.
Jordan did not join Scotscraig GC until February this year when he came under the wing of the club pro Craig Mackie.
Prior to that Jordan, whose father Dennis started him off playing golf at Camperdown Park, Dundee when he was 10, had won the junior club championship at Arbroath Artisans Golf Club.
In his formative years he was coached first by Roddy Brown at Camperdown and then Lindsay Ewart at Arbroath.
"I am indebted to the three pros for their expert coaching and encouragement," said Jordan who plays off three of a handicap.
He recently left school but hopes to gain a golf scholarship to a United States college.
His next big test is the Scottish boys' stroke-play championship at Blairgowrie from July 22 to 24.
