PINTO IN SPANISH FINAL
Sunday's 18-hole final of the Spanish men's open amateur championship at Pals Golf Club near Gerona will feature English Walker Cup player Daniel Willett (pictured on the left of the pair) and home hope Jordi Garcia Pinto.
Willett, 12th of the 32 match-play qualifiers, ended the great run by another Spaniard of Johann Lopez Lazaro by 6 and 5 in today's semi-finals.
Lazaro, the last of the 32 qualifiers, toppled No 1 see Paul Betty from Hayston by 3 and 2 in the first round of the match-play.
Jordi Garcia Pinto, the No 6 seed, shattered the hopes of an all-English final by beating young Eddie Pepperell 3 and 2 in the second semi-final.
Pinto is bidding to following in the famous Spanish footsteps of Jose Maria Olazabal, winner of the title in 1983 and 1984, and, more recently, Sergio Garcia in 1998.
