DUTCHMAN SLUITER WINS IN CALIFORNIA
Freshman Tim Sluiter from the Netherlands, a student at Southern California University, won the USC Collegiate Invitational tournament at North Ranch Country Club, Westlake Village, California by one shot with a five-over-par total of 218.
Sluiter was not one of the five Southern Cal players' whose scores counted for the team event - but they still won the title by four strokes from Tennessee for whom English player Chris Paisley from Newcastle and Charles Ford from Leicester played a big part.
Paisley was one of four players who tied for third place on 220. He scored 77, 71 and 72.
Team-mate Charles Ford had the lowest score by anyone in the final round - a superb six-under-par 65, including eighth birdies, over the 6,869yd course. Ford's earlier rounds were 82 and 80 and his final total 227, which gave him joint 25th place.
