FERRIE BACK IN THE HUNT WITH ONE ROUND
TO GO AT US PGA TOUR QUALIFYING SCHOOL
Kenneth Ferrie from the North-east of England has played himself back into contention for one of the 25 (and ties) players' cards for the 2008 US PGA Tour available at the end of 108 holes of the Final Qualifying School at Winter Garden, Florida.
The competition in the field of 160+ is so fiercesome that a par round will drop a player down a few places.
Ferrie shot a fifth-round 69, his fifth sub-par score in a row - 69, 70, 70 and 71 were his earlier rounds - but he is still "only" joint 31st in a field of 163 (there is no cut), having improved from joint 51st after four rounds.
Ferrie stands at 11-under-par 349 - 17 shots behind the long-time, front-runner Frank Lickliter (62-62-68-72-68).
Compatriot Greg Owen has dropped out of the hunt, for instance, with back to back par rounds of 72 after earlier scores of 69, 70 and 70 had kept him in the picture.
Owen started the penultimate day injoint 55th position. By the end of it he had slumped to joint 76th on 353.
Notah Begay III, friend of Tiger Woods, could do with some of his buddy's magic over the final round. Notah is in joint 99th position on 356.
Ireland's Keith Nolan is even worse off. He is sharing 159th place on 366.
Remember only the leading 25 and ties after Monday's sixth round get places alongside Tiger & Co next year.
