DONALD STIRLING PUTS ROYAL ABERDEEN
AMONG HIS THREE FAVOURITE COURSES

Writing in the current issue of the PGA E-mail Bulletin, Austrian-based professional Donald Stirling (Wien-Sussenbrunn GC) picks Royal Aberdeen as one of his three favourite courses. The others are both in England - Moortown, Leeds and Royal Birkdale, Lancashire.
Donald writes:

1 – Moortown, Leeds. I was an assistant there. It was par 69 but standard scratch 72 – that’s how good it was. NickFaldo won there with four 68s (four under par). Even with the changes today it’s one of the top courses in the North of England.
2 – Royal Birkdale. I saw Lee Trevino win the Open there in 1971 and it was the original links with sandy dunes and, in those days, very hard fairways.
3 – Royal Aberdeen. They’ve made a couple of changes but it’s got the outward nine fighting against the wind and downwind for the second nine. A great test.
