WEBSTER WINS PORTUGAL MASTERS
WITH FINAL ROUND OF 64
England's Steve Webster won the Portugal Masters with a superb closing round of 64 at the Victoria Club in Vilamoura.
One behind Argentina's Daniel Vancsik overnight, the 32-year-old from Nuneaton was in the joint lead after going to the turn in a four-under 32, then took command when he sank a 9ft eagle putt on the dangerous long 12th and followed it with a birdie 2.
Webster, whose only previous European Tour victory in over a decade as a professional was the Italian Open two years ago, went on to add two more birdies and did not drop a shot until the tournament was in the bag at the last.
He claimed the first prize of nearly £350,000 with a 25-under-par total that was the lowest of the season - no winner has scored lower on the final day either - and then, remembering the death of his mother earlier this year, Steve collapsed in tears.
Second was Ryder Cup Swede Robert Karlsson, two shots behind on 265 after finishing with a 65, while Lee Westwood was joint fourth on 269 and Justin Rose, who needed a top-two finish to go top of the Order of Merit, was joint 21st.
