HILLSON ENDS YOUNG ROSS RUN
IN LOTHIANS FINAL

Mark Hillson (Craigielaw) ended the great glory run of 17-year-old James Ross (Royal Burgess) - but only in the final of the Lothians' men's amateur championship over the Bruntsfield Links this afternoon.
Ross, who qualified for the match-play stages only in 30th place, claimed some notable scalps on his way to this morning's semi-finals.
In there he beat the No 5 seed, Craig Elliot (Carrickvale) at the 20th - Ross having also won at the 20th in the quarter-finals.
In the other semi-final, Hillson, the No 11 qualifier, beat John Hall (Royal Musselburgh), the No 15 qualifier by 4 and 2.
In the final, Ross kept his end up but was eventually worn down by Hillson who won the prestigious title by 2 and 1.

J Ross (Royal Burgess) bt C Elliot (Carrickvale) at 20th.,
M D R Hillson (Craigielaw) bt J Hall (Royal Musselburgh) 4 and 2.
Final
Hillson bt Ross 2 and 1.
