EUROPEAN CHALLENGE TOUR
CHRIS DOAK 14TH EQUAL AS KAYMER WINS OUT
OF THE PARK IN FRENCH OPEN DES VOLCANS
Germany’s Martin Kaymer claimed his second title in only four events when he won the European Challenge Tour's Open des Volcans by an impressive six strokes from Frenchman Michael Lorenzo-Vera.
A closing level par 71 for a 13-under-par total of 271 earned Kaymer 19,200 Euros and continued a remarkable start to his fledgling professional career that has seen the 21-year-old win twice and finish runner-up in only four tournaments. In that time he has climbed to ninth on the Challenge Tour rankings.
After opening with rounds of 67, 64 and 69, Kaymer started the final rounds four strokes clear and never looked in danger of losing his grip on the title as he mixed three birdies with three bogeys to claim the title.
Earlier this year Kaymer shot 59 on Habsberg Classic on the Satelitte EPD Tour but now he is on course to graduate to the European Tour.
His six-shot victory equals the largest winning margin of the season and he becomes only the second multiple winner of the year.
Lorenzo-Vera birdied the first but three bogeys in his next 10 holes ended his title hopes as he closed with a two-over-par 73 to finish second on seven-under-par 277.
Welshman Sion E Bebb was two further back alongside compatriot Tim Milford after both shot final rounds of 71.
Scotland's Chris Doak finished 14th equal on 282.
