PETER WHITEFORD GETS CONFIDENCE BACK
Fifer Peter Whiteford overcame a crisis of confidence to move into a share of second place at the European Challenge Tour’s Telia Challenge Waxholm in Sweden on Thursday..
The Kirkcaldy professional produced an excellent five-under-par 68 at the par-73 Waxholm Golf Club on the outskirts of Stockholm to join Swedes Klas Eriksson and Wilhelm Schauman, as well as the Dane Mads Vibe-Hastrup, in the chasing pack that lie three behind Argentinian Rafael Echenique.
The leader set a course record with his eight under 65, but Whiteford was arguably the most pleased of all in the 144-strong field after missing his last three cuts.
“I needed that today because I think it’s fair to say that my confidence was at an all-time low after last weekend,” said Whiteford. “I like this golf course and it suits my game, but the big test will be going out and shooting a low number again tomorrow. I hope I can keep it going because I need some good results to save my season.”
David Patrick is the next best Scot on the field after a two under par 71, with Andrew McArthur posting a level and Graham Fox a 74.
