BRITISH MEN'S OPEN AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

MAJORITY OF SCOTS FAIL TO MAKE

IT THROUGH TO MATCH-PLAY

Only a handful of Scots survived the 36-hole qualifying test to decide the 64 qualifiers (and ties) for the match-play stages of the British men’s amateur championship in Kent.

Those who made it through included:

148 John Gallagher (Swanston) 70 78.

149 Richie Ramsay (Royal Aberdeen) 78 71.

150 Jonathan King (Glasgow) 74 76.

151 Duncan Stewart (Grantown on Spey) 75 76, Craig Watson (East Renfrewshire) 74 77, Scott Jamieson (Cathkin Braes) 75 76.

152 Wallace Booth (Comrie) 75 77, Bryan Fotheringham (Forres) 74 78.

One of the major non-qualifiers was Walker Cup player Lloyd Saltman with 76 and 78 for 154.

NON-QUALIFIERS INCLUDED:

153 R Dixon (Barassie) 77 76, S Mann (Carnoustie ) 76 77.

154 L Saltman (Craigielaw) 76 78, S Clark (Haggs Castle) 77 77.

155 S McEwan (Barassie) 79 76, K McNicoll (Carnoustie) 74 81.

156 P O’Hara (Colville Park) 80 76, M Kerr (Dalmahoy) 77 79, G Murray (Earlsferry Th) 74 82.

157 G Wood (Crow Wood) 80 77, J Findlay (Fraserburgh) 79 78.

158 R Knox (Inverness ) 76 82.

160 S Twynholm (Morpeth) 80 80, C Macaulay (Tulliallan) 79 81, E McIntosh (Newmachar) 79 81.

164 E Saltman (Craigielaw) 86 78.

165 G Campbell (Blairgowrie) 75 80.

167 Scott Henry (Cardross) 82 85.

169 P McKellar (East Renfrewshire) 89 80.

The leading qualifier was Llewellyn Matthews, a Welshman from Southerndown with 74 and 68 for 142.

Oliver Fisher (West Essex) made it through on 144 (73-71). So too did Gary Wolstenholme (Kilworth Springs) with 75 and 71 for 146.
